Our Simplicity White Kantha Throws are celebrating their 10th birthday in 2025, and today I wanted to highlight these unique and awesome throw blankets.
Origins of our White Kantha Throw Blankets
dignify developed the "white" blankets with Basha in 2015 from an inspo photo I liked on Pinterest. The original throws were stitched with red/yellow/green or shades of blue, with an x-stitch around the perimeter. When we celebrated our 5th anniversary of dignify in 2017, we made a special, limited edition with our dignify colors (at the time): teal, mint, & grey, with one stitch line of red.
We ultimately left behind the x-stitch because it was putting out baseball vibes, and snagging too easily. We also sunsetted the large size and bedding sizes (though they are still available for custom orders).
Over the years, the colorways have evolved, and we currently have seven different styles of stitch colors.
What's the same about them? What is different?
Very obviously, these throws are different from our classic throws because, well, they are not as, um, colorful... 😂 #understatement
But, there are a few other differences, too.
- Simplicity throws are made with brand new cloth on the outer layers, whereas Classic throws are made entirely with repurposed cloth. Both are 100% muslin cotton.
- Simplicity throws are thicker & heavier. Compared to our classics, these are about 1.5x the weight.
- Limited washing is recommended for our Classic Throws because of wear. The Simplicity Throws, however, seem to get better and softer with time & washes. This is an advantage of the new cloth: it is a bit thicker, a bit hardier.
(Anyone out there can weigh in with a different experience, but I have yet to ever hear of a hole or wear-from-use on any white throw from these past 9.5 years.)
- The limited options (compared to our hundreds, thousands of one-of-a-kind, colorful throws) makes it easy to pop a Simplicity Kantha on a wish list, or gift to someone with a more minimal palette, or whom you don't know as well.
